The Beginnings
MEPLA's foundation was established in 1999 through pioneering research in finite element analysis for glazing systems. The innovative approach to laminated glass panes enabled, for the first time, realistic simulation of visco-elastic deformation and stress behavior. To accelerate market entry, a strategic cooperation agreement was formed with SJ Software GmbH, which handled frontend development based on our specifications, while the complex calculation core remained under our exclusive development and maintenance. Our automated and efficient procedures gained strong industry acceptance, as they enabled fast and precise calculation of all glazing geometries and glass structures, distinguishing our solution from conventional FE software.
Expanding Professional Expertise
Our team's expertise has been continuously strengthened through advanced academic research at the Technical University of Darmstadt, focusing on mechanical fundamentals crucial for MEPLA core development. Specialized knowledge in materials mechanics, micromechanics, continuum mechanics, and glass construction has expanded the program's scientific foundation. Recent developments include independent FE programs for modeling hyperelastic materials in three-dimensional systems, advanced specialization in glass construction and polymers, and cutting-edge concepts in fracture mechanics. Current research on fracture behavior of thermally toughened glass panes continues to enhance our technological capabilities.
MEPLA Software GmbH – All expertise under one roof
Mepla Software GmbH was established in August 2024 as the cooperation agreement with SJ Software GmbH approached its conclusion. The partnership was fully terminated in February 2025, making SJ Mepla 5.0 the final version distributed under that collaboration. This strategic transition consolidated all development and sales expertise within our organization. The complex mathematical calculation core—the software's foundation—along with visualization and evaluation programs, has always remained under our exclusive development and is now centralized at Mepla Software GmbH.
Since February 2025, Mepla Software GmbH has unified user interface development and scientific calculation core advancement under one roof with MEPLA Pro. This integration ensures optimal coordination of all components while providing our clients direct access to leading expertise in finite element analysis for glazing systems. Our comprehensive technical competence, ongoing development initiatives, license management, and distribution operations are now exclusively managed within our organization.
